Position Summary
The Director of Engineering HW/SW will manage the development of state-of-the-art personal transportation products.
This is high level strategic role for development of motor drive systems, battery management and monitoring systems, instrument panel displays, and gyro stabilized control systems.
Director will interface with upper management in planning schedules, milestones, delivery dates, cost estimates, risk analysis and participate in meetings to manage a global expansion of supply chain and remote manufacturing operations.
Director will directly supervise internal hardware and software engineering personnel as well as external technical contractors.
A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, preferably with both large and small companies. Must have worked on products that have been entered commercial volume production.
BS in electrical engineering, computer science or similar preferred
Primary Responsibilities
• Manage the delivery of new products through R&D and into production
• Plan schedule and maintain internal resources to align project times with corporate goals
• Supervise engineering personnel within the company
• Manage external relationships to vendors, offshore manufacturing and satellite offices
• Work with RYNO VP of Supply Chain to assure components are well documented and tied to a efficient supply chain
• Be a creative resource for junior designers and consultants to bring the latest technology and practices to bare on each new project
• Keep a long term technology road map in mind as each sort term plan is made
• Write component specifications such as battery and motor specs and manage the procurement of custom supplied sub-components
• Assure that all software code meets industry standards in modularity, commenting, documentation, and is cross platform portable
• Oversee PCB layout, design and release to fabrication
• Manage the creation of HW test plans as required and review test data
• Review HW analysis and create reports
• Manage SW system design reviews and resolve HW/SW implementation tradeoffs with other members of the engineering team
Desired Skills and Experience
• Engineering department management in a fast moving creative start-up environment
• Team management skills in a larger company with rigor around reporting planning and meeting milestones
• Upper management communication skills that use appropriate methods to keep upper management informed on risk, cost and timeline
• Past PCB design and debugging experience
• Motion control systems implementation and debugging
• Brushless and brushed DC motor controller design
• Embedded “C” language programming
• Strong working knowledge of developing embedded software for embedded processors
• Strong working knowledge of hard Real Time Operating Systems
• Serial communication protocols
• Experience with the following communication protocols a plus: Wifi, USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth, CAN Buss
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Previous experience with gyro stabilized systems such as gimbal camera platforms and motion stabilization systems highly desirable
• Experience with TI Hercules family of processors extra bonus points

You will work closely with a director of engineering and product managers to implement solutions that meet or exceed customers’ expectations.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably with both large and small companies.
Must have worked on products that have been entered commercial volume production.

Primary Responsibilities
• High power MOSFET switching motor controller design
• High speed logic motion control with PID and servo control
• Integrate existing accelerometers, gyros and sensors to stabilize motion
• Develop and support both new and existing HW/SW designs
• Create and maintain HW/SW design standards and assure a high level of documentation
• PCB layout, design and release to fabrication
• Design cable harnesses that use standard approaches and stand-up to heavy use
• Investigate/troubleshoot HW/SW failures for service returns, production, and R&D
• Create HW test plans as required and review test data
• Perform HW analysis and create reports
• Create SW/test SW as necessary for HW validation
• Perform SW system design and resolve HW/SW implementation tradeoffs with other members of the engineering team
